Analysis

This is some of the most beautiful early game play I’ve seen in a while: Eli has a very nice card pool for a waifu deck with clock-control gimmicks, whole lot of different assists, etc. There’s also a few ways to handle this build, but we’ll get to that later on – as always 🙂

Level 0’s most brilliant cards are the runner and Marching Girl because their conditions are so easily met: for the runner, you have a 19/25 chance to reveal a <Music> character, enabling her to switch slots, and as long as you have just one more Eli besides Marching Girl, she constantly sits at 3.5k. Wonderful, isn’t it? I agree. I chose to rely on the 3.5k pseudo-beater a little bit more though, so there’s only 2 copies of the runner.

Besides letting you manipulate your opponent’s stock, Great Idea Eli has an interesting plussing brainstorm which lets you take cards from your clock instead of your deck or the WR – you’re severely limited in the amount of cards you can choose from, but there’s a big plus side to her as she lets you choose any card – meaning you can use her brainstorm to grab events or even climaxes as well. Brainstorm is an ACT ability, so it goes well with your global assister, which lets you give an additional +500 power to a character once per turn when an ACT ability is used.

The other star of level zero is the Khorosho changer: by putting her in your clock, you can bring out the 1/0 yellow Eli (which gets +500 power for each other <Music> character) from your WR. Since this change doesn’t require any stock to be paid, it can eventually be executed on the very first turn as well – I’m not saying it’s likely to happen (since most of the time you’ll be changing at late level 0 or early level 1), but I did manage to pull it off once while testing this deck: first turn, played Khorosho and the global assister, then changed into 1/0 yellow Eli and wham, now there’s a 5.5k character out on the first turn that can’t be reversed with level 0 suiciders. Felt great as heck.

Helping her get even more buff, there’s the No Brand Girls assist assist in 4 copies; partially for color fixing, partially because it’s actually a very good card if you have stock to spare (which this deck definitely does). If you have 2 of these in the back row, not only do they each give +1000 to front, but you can rest each of them to give a <Music> character an additional +1000 power boost until end of turn, which is a nice way to accumulate power.

Heartbeat is also an assist that shares an identical second effect as No Brand Girls, but I’ve only included it as a tech copy because she also gives the characters in front of her +1 level alongside the +500 power: while that can be useful against the ever-so-common level 1 suiciders these days, it’s also a bit annoying to constantly be exposed to possible anti-change because of her effect.

To wrap up level 1, there’s a climax combo left: Dressed Up with her 1k1soul BAG climax: somehow similar to Maki’s combo, but using a different mechanic of pay 1 on attack rather than costless on reverse, which is more sure-fire in many situations. Other than that, it’s just the standard effect of looking  at up to 4 cards, taking a character to hand and discarding the rest – helps you mill while also increasing your hand. After the combo, you’re also attacking with 7k instead of 5k, which is nice.

Oh, and she also gets +500 power for each of your other <Music> characters, so she’s not too frail either – 9k base power if you have a full stage.

Though by the time you’re level 2, as long as you have at least half the stage filled, power shouldn’t be much of a problem with Eli’s event counter: if you have 3 characters, it’s just like a regular level 2 backup/counter with 3k power – any more characters are just a plus and ideally, you’ll be pulling this off as a 2/1 5k event.

At level 3, you get to mess with your opponent’s board to your heart’s content: Sun Shower heals you on play and lets you bounce the opponent’s characters back to hand, which is especially useful if they’re relying on the power of their characters to survive and don’t have the means to encore them or to play new characters the next turn due to low stock. But if you can reverse any of their characters, that’s also great because of  Happy Maker‘s clock shoot effect, which she basically pays for herself  with the 1 free stock ability if you have 4 other Elis on field when you play her. Don’t forget that you can also pay 1 stock to give any of your Elis +1500 power for the turn with her third effect.

As a tech copy at level 3, there’s “A Present for You” Eli: a bit situational and requiring you to pay attention to what goes in and out of your opponent’s stock, but still very fun to use since you can mill climaxes out of your opponent’s deck with it – it’s mostly blind luck, but you have to predict and calculate a bit to see if it pays off.

The climaxes are 4 BAG triggers and 4 stock-souls, which both increase your stock. But you have to keep in mind that BAG triggers give you 1 blind stock and therefore there is always a chance that you might be getting an additional climax stuck in there, so I sometimes skip the blind stock entirely if I don’t really need it or I won’t be paying out stock any time soon.

Important stuff to keep in mind when playing:

  • All characters have “Eli” in their name
  • All characters are <Music>
  • The clock-manipulating effects take a little getting used to if you haven’t played a deck like this before.
  • The stock is strong with this one. Testing the deck, I never struggled with too little stock at all, and I’ve even had multiple instances of just burning 4 or 5 stock on Happy Maker‘s boost for the heck of it when the game was either win now or lose the next turn.

What can be changed if you want a different playstyle?

Two power alternatives for level 0 are μ’s Backup Dancer? Eli and “Apple Candy and You” Eli Ayase, and you also have frontal assists with milling effects like Eli in Training Wear.

Prior to the release of DX!! 2 in EN, Eli already had a very nice climax combo at level 1: Student Council President, Eli with What I Really Want to Do – the combo effectively buffs the 1/1 6k Eli to 8.5k until the end of your opponent’s turn while also blocking your opponent from using any events for the same duration. However, her climax is a stock-soul that makes you stock the top card of your deck, which can result in additional climaxes getting blind-stocked aside from the BAG trigger on A Piece of Chocolate. Yellow 1/1 Elis are powerful enough and the Dressed Up combo is more effective in preparing your hand for late game, so I don’t think there’s any need to still run this old combo other than maybe wanting to mess with your opponent’s game play. You can try running both level 1 combos if you want, but in my experience, it doesn’t really pay off as you’ll always be torn between two climaxes at the same point in the game, which will actually hinder your gameplay more than you’d imagine.

Other notable level 1 cards are the 1-turn 7k beater and this global assist that also lets you manipulate your clock, though with this build, No Brand Girls takes its place instead for color fixing.

Speaking of the assist assist, if you want to replace it with something more powerful that still keeps your color balance, check out “Bewitching Mermaid” Eli Ayase for level 2 – Otonokizaka High 3rd Year, Eli could be considered an alternative option as well,  but unfortunately, it’s green.  And for the final major change, if you don’t like the Angelic Angel combo and want to use a bigger power burst combo, your best bet would be “KiRa-KiRa Sensation!” Eli Ayase and her belonging climax, but keep in mind that as it’s a +2 soul climax, it changes the gameplay to a more soul-rush direction.
